GRILLING!
I remember when Mom would say to Dad, "Honey, can you start the grill, supper will be ready in about 45 min. to an hour." Dad would go out, put some newspaper in the grill and stack some charcoal in a triangle above it. After going out about three times it would finally burn consistently. Then we had the BIG grill, we could cook all our hamburgers at once and Dad would only have to start the grill about 30 min. earlier because we also had the "Chimney." A metal contraption that you put newspaper in the bottom and stacked charcoal in the top. It normally caught fire the first time.
Now, we have gotten fancy. Mom asked me to cook on the grill about 15 min. before the food was ready. I went out to the grill, turned the gas valve on, pushed the electronic lighter and VOOM, I had the grill started. I waited for about two minutes for the iron to heat up and cooked the hamburgers. About ten minutes later, it started raining. I wonder what the grill will be like next year.
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
Thank you to the soldiers who have fought for me to enjoy my freedoms.
